Balinese Dewi Sri Rice Goddess Sculpture
Dewi Sri hand carved sono wood statue, known as Cili or the Rice Mother she is the symbol of fertility in Bali's rich agrarian culture. She is the most important goddess to the Balinese, as she presides over the life giving rice terraces, there are shrines to honor Dewi Sri in every rice paddy all over Bali. Offerings are given to her to ensure a bountiful harvest of rice.
Carved in the elongated style of Mas village, she is holding an offering tray and life giving rice stalks, a mala draped around her neck. Very fine small details on her clothing and crown and a beautiful sweet face. Crafted from one solid chunk of sonowood, and polished to a fine sheen.
The condition: Excellent overall condition, no crack chips or checkering.
This magnificent carving displays beautifully and is in excellent condition rarely seen in carvings like this today.
