About Melasti: It is the day of purification and blessing in Bali which take place three days before the Saka New Year known as NEPYI. All Balinese march in procession to the sea and perform cleansing rituals to themselves and their holy objects and offerings of flowers and fruits in preparation for the new year. It is my favorite day in Bali, so colorful with flowers, the sound of gongs and the scent of sandalwood incense floating in the air, flamboyant Balinese umbrellas like bright punctuation marks against the deep blue sky! Dressed in their finest attire, bearing all their offering !
